Burying a Sausage to Stop Rain on Your Wedding Day? Yep, It’s a Thing.

If you’ve never heard of burying a sausage before your wedding… buckle up, because this one’s a gem.

Somewhere deep in the archives of wedding folklore (the guess is the UK, though no one’s entirely sure), couples began burying a sausage in the ground before their wedding as a good luck charm to guarantee perfect weather. Why a sausage? Honestly, no idea. But it’s weird, it's random, and it’s exactly the kind of chaotic superstition I secretly live for.

The Rules? There Are None.

  • The concept is simple:
  • Get yourself a sausage (any kind)
  • Dig a small hole at or near your ceremony spot
  • Bury it in the lead-up to the big day

Some say a week before, others swear a month out. I’ve even heard of couples doing it the night before just for the fun of it. There are zero rules — and that’s part of the charm.

Does It Actually Stop Rain?

Who knows. But I dare say.. It’s probably not very scientific..haha. But even if it does rain on your wedding day, you still walk away with a cracking story - and honestly, that’s worth it alone.

What I love most about this tradition is how inclusive it is. There’s no “only the bride must do this under a full moon” energy here. Anyone can bury the sausage. Partner A, Partner B, your dog, your wedding party - the more chaotic the energy, the better. Turn it into a mini ritual with your crew. Add champagne. Film the whole thing. The group chat content alone will be iconic.

A Wedding Superstition Worth Trying

Whether you’re superstitious, curious, or just hoping to avoid soggy shoes at the altar — burying a sausage might be the lucky charm you never knew you needed.

Worst case? It rains, and you’ve still got love, laughter, and champagne (and trust me I also secretly live for a rainy wedding shoot because damm they are so romantic and real).

Best case? Sunshine, good vibes, and a wedding day story for the ages!

And PLEASE Tag me if you do it — I neeeeed to see the pics!
