Some photoshoots just have that extra bit of magic, and Mel and Blake’s engagement session at Bribie Island was exactly that. From the moment we met up, I knew it was going to be one of those special afternoons—the kind where love, laughter, and golden light all come together perfectly.
A Personal Connection
I first met Mel many years ago as a young girl when we played hockey for opposing clubs, and later, we eventually found ourselves on the same team. We also crossed paths many times while umpiring hockey games, so it was such a full-circle moment to reconnect as adults and capture this exciting chapter of her life with Blake. Seeing her so happy and in love couldn’t make me happier, and I wish them both all the best for their wedding later this year.
A Picture-Perfect Setting
Bribie Island never disappoints, but that evening, it really showed off. The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm glow over the sand dunes and waves. A ocean breeze made everything feel effortless and dreamy, the perfect backdrop for a couple so naturally in sync with each other.
From Nervous to Natural
Like many couples, Mel and Blake arrived feeling a little unsure about having their photos taken. It’s completely normal—most people worry about looking awkward or not knowing what to do. But that’s where I step in! My goal with every session is to create a lighthearted and fun environment, so within no time, they were laughing, playing, and completely embracing the moment. It didn’t take long before their personalities and love for each other truly shined, and they got into the swing of having fun in front of the camera!
A Special Guest – Maggie
Adding to the magic of the day was their beautiful, energetic pup, Maggie—a young German Shorthaired Pointer who was beyond excited to be included and have her moment too! She brought so much energy and joy to the session, running along the shoreline and making sure she was right in the middle of the action. We made sure to capture some beautiful photos of Maggie with Mel and Blake, because their love isn’t just for each other—it’s for her too. Seeing their little family together was just so beautiful.
The Experience
What made this session so special was how effortlessly Mel and Blake embraced the moment. Running barefoot through the water, twirling in the golden light, and just soaking it all in.
